Matariki Celebrations

On our last day of school we had a whole day of wonderful, creative, sporting, and delicious learning opportunities. Our children got together in their house groups and took part in a range of activities. Some children spent the day working on our magnificent mural with Mrs Worthington. There were stories and art activities with Mrs Fulton and Miss Jones, and Miss Cane and I taught the children a traditional poi toa game called Horo Hopu. Simon and a group of students had a chat with Tim Southee who zoomed in from MIQ and talked about his recent victory in the Cricket World Test Championship (the most important event in the greatest game of all), contested between 2019 – 2021.

At lunchtime we were treated to delicious soup courtesy of Amy and Colin at Butterfish, and lovely warm sausages donated by Wendy and Andy at the 4-Square and cooked by Simon, Jeff and Bruno.

Many thanks to Caitlin, Abby and Lara who helped dish out lunch, and Katarina who donated the biodegradable cups and spoons.

We had a great day and have plans to make next year even better. Keep watching for more news about our mural – it will be unveiled early in Term 3.
